Thank you for contacting me regarding Sudan. I appreciate hearing from you. Since February of 2003, as many as 30,000 civilians have been killed, and an estimated 1 million have been displaced, as a result of violence in the Darfur Province. On July 22, 2004, the Senate unanimously passed S.Con.Res. 133, which declares that the situation in Darfur as genocide. Additionally, it condemns the Government of the Republic of Sudan for its harsh treatment of innocent civilians in the Darfur region, and calls for greater action from the United Nations on this matter. In April, the U.N. Human Rights Commission issued a resolution expressing concerns about conditions in Darfur; the U.S. had, however, sought a stronger resolution. Recently, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and Secretary of State Colin Powell visited the region and secured a commitment from the Sudanese government to expand the African Union's 120-member military monitoring team in Darfur. Be assured that I will keep your concerns in mind. We must continue to work with our international allies to prevent a worsening of the crisis in Darfur. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. My best wishes to you. Sincerely, HARRY REID United States Senator Isn't Harry a swell guy. Sent me a nice letter informing me of his strong stance. What a guy. Of course I bolded the portion that seems a bit weak. Prevent a worsening of the crisis. How about end the crisis with bold and forceful measures from the international community? Harry? Get some of those old, six week vacationing, dillhole, friends of yours off their duffs and into meetings with international delegates, to sort this mess out. Better yet, tell GW to get our boys back from Iraq and send them on a real mission, rather than this made up WMD crap he used to fuel his lying face war on Iraq. We have a mass of individuals undergoing mass genocide. All GW could give a crap about is keeping his oil interests and the interests of his billionaire buddies and the house of Saud in the middle east happy. Well, I for one have had enough. If we are going to allow our son's, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers and mothers lives to be put on the line. I for one would rather it be for the saving of innocents lives rather than making a bunch of fat cats, who are already dripping freaking rich, more money. Get your priorities straight, Harry, GW. Or your asses are gone come next election. Hopefully the masses won't be so easily duped this time around and your shenanigans will come to light in time to boot your butt out of the White house!!!!! |
